Happy Friday the 13th!

It must be Friday the 13th. That could be the only explanation for what I did today. I kept the kids home today for the P.A. Day.....the school called around 10am to find out where they were, cause it's NOT a P.A. Day!! I had it marked on the calendar AND in my Blackberry. I was stunned when the school secretary told me that it was, in fact, a school day. Duh.......who's getting the Mother of the Year Award this year???

So the kids stayed home anyhow and I took them skating. For $5 we had the entire rink to ourselves because it wasn't a P.A. Day!! It was awesome!

Emma left a couple of hours ago to begin her March Break journey, cruising through the Caribbean.... St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua.....sigh......makes me wish I were 17 again.

I, on the other hand, am about to begin my own March Break journey- juggling college, kids and homework.....yay.

No Drama...

My, my! It's been a very busy weekend for us....

Yesterday, Eric and I went out to get Emma's birthday present......a new cell phone. So, I'm a little pissed about it, but it's what she really wants. Why would I be pissed, you ask? Because for the last 3 birthdays, I have given Emma a new cell phone. In fact, I just found the phone that we gave her last year on Thursday. It was mangled and in a hundred pieces at the side of the driveway because that's where she lost it- and that's where Eric snow-blowed it. So as far as I can tell, buying Emma a cell phone is like throwing money out the window. Well, whatever.....she was happy with it so I will pretend to be happy.

Yesterday Eric and I took Sam and Kristen bowling. Have you been bowling lately?!!? It was quite an experience.....we walked in and it was pitch black with glow-in-the-dark carpeting, strobe lights and flashing coloured lights. The music was BLARING. It was packed. It did cost about $37 for a half hour of bowling, 4 pairs of shoes and a pop and some nachos for the kids. The kids were complaining that the music was too loud, but otherwise they enjoyed it. I really, really suck at bowling but that worked out because everyone beat me and had a fun experience!

Today, we took the kids and the dogs for a hike on a trail near our house. Cindy has gained a bit of weight (she now snores as much as the bulldog) because all she does is sleep and I think she was happy to get out in the woods for some exercise. After the hike, we went skating! The kids LOVE skating....this is an ideal sport because it's cheap ($6 for 2 adults, 2 children) and it's something we can all do together. Today was Eric's first time out this year and he is amazing! A natural! Kristen and Sam love it a lot now too because they really don't fall that much anymore...

So, no drama this weekend.....and I'm kinda thankful for that. But we are all pretty tired!!

A little Sunday Torture....

It was a snowy, snowy Sunday today. Environment Canada was bang-off on the weather again and instead of 2-5cm of snow, we got about 25cm of the white manure. Now that it's nearing the end of January, I'm becoming a bit of a "winter bitch".....just a little tired of the frigid temperatures and falling snow.

So, today Eric and I took Sam and Kristen ice skating.

Ya know, it was really.....um..... interesting.....Sam called it "skiing" even when we were on the ice skating around the perimeter of the rink. Kristen was having a fun time until she fell for the 50th time on the same spot on her rear end. She became soooo angry and pissed off! She was flailing, waving her arms and cutting people off while she cried out of frustration, struggling to get to the bench to rip her skates off. Eric and I haven't skated since that one time we went last year so we sucked too. In fact, Eric was skating with an achilles tendon injury from hitting the gym so much. Me? I just struggled to keep my skates from falling inward. My legs were shaking and I was trying to hold up the kids AND myself....and we did this for an entire hour. When we got our skates off it felt like days had passed since we hit the rink! We gathered up our stuff and got to the car while Kristen bitched about being hot and having a headache and Sam cried about his toes hurting. When we got back home and the kids were drinking a cup of hot chocolate Kristen said to me,

"I did a great job skating! I even did it all by myself!! Can we go again tomorrow?"

Oh. My. God.
